Parliamentary Committee

Statutory body mandated to protect Bangladesh's rivers from illegal encroachment, water and environmental pollution, illegal extraction, and unauthorised structure construction; coordinate river-related activities across relevant ministries and agencies; recommend conservation policy to the government; serve as legal guardian of all rivers under the 2019 Supreme Court judgment declaring rivers as legal persons; compile and maintain lists of encroachers; and restore natural river flow for socio-economic development.
