Standing advisory committee under the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) that reviews and recommends on: drug registration and cancellation, national essential medicines list composition, drug pricing frameworks, manufacturing and quality standards, import of raw materials and finished drugs, and implementation of the National Drug Policy. National Drug Policy updates (1982, 2005, 2016) and the 2026 essential medicines pricing exercise were each driven by ad hoc expert committees convened by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with the Drug Control Committee serving as the permanent institutional mechanism for ongoing regulatory decisions between major policy reviews.
