দেশে ইলিশের উৎপাদন টানা দুই বছর কমেছে। দুই বছরে কমেছে ৭১ হাজার ৫৪ টন। এই পতনের প্রায় পুরোটাই এসেছে সমুদ্র থেকে আহরণ কমে যাওয়ায়।
এ সময় দেশব্যাপী ইলিশ পরিবহন ও মজুতকরণ, বাজারজাতকরণ, ক্রয়-বিক্রয় ও বিনিময় সম্পূর্ণ নিষিদ্ধ থাকবে।

কোনোভাবেই ইলিশের উৎপাদন বাড়ানো যাচ্ছে না। এ নিয়ে সরকার সভা–সেমিনারসহ নানা ধরনের প্রকল্প নিলেও তা কাজে আসছে না।
