Provenance & notes
Vote totals cross-verified across Wikipedia, TBS, and Bonikbarta: Chowdhury 123,582 + Anwari 122,033 + Nurul Haque (IAB) 4,338 + Saifuddin Khaled (NDA) 379 = 250,332 valid votes; 4,899 ballots cancelled; 255,231 total cast; turnout 67.94% against a ~375,690-person electorate. Vote shares computed from valid votes: 123,582/250,332 = 49.37%, 122,033/250,332 = 48.75%, margin 0.62 pp (1,549 raw votes) -- narrowest BNP win in Cox's Bazar district. Wikipedia's 50.31% figure appears to use a different denominator and is not used here. Chowdhury previously served 1991-1996 and 2001-2006; lost in 2018 to AL's Shahin Akhtar; 2026 is his third term. term_count = 3 (confirmed). A cyber-defamation case (Chattogram Cyber Tribunal, July 2025, Section 25 Cyber Security Ordinance 2025) was filed by Chowdhury as Cox's Bazar District BNP president against five individuals before his election; it is not an EC-affidavit criminal case against him, so criminal_cases = []. A different 'Shahjahan Chowdhury' (Jamaat, Chattagram-15) asked a Rohingya repatriation question on 2026-03-30; that event is NOT attributable to this MP and is excluded. Constituency is Bangladesh's primary Rohingya hosting zone: Ukhia (Kutupalong mega-camp) and Teknaf host ~one million refugees, making it the most geopolitically sensitive constituency in the country. EC-only rule: all election data sourced from EC-certified results as reported by BSS and cross-checked with Wikipedia.
