Recent activity
- 2026-04-09 vote Jamaat MPs, including Shajahan Chowdhury, voted against the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (Amendment) Bill 2026, which retained Jamaat-e-Islami as a named collaborator of Pakistani forces in 1971; Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman demanded removal of the party name on the floor. ↗↗↗
- 2026-03-01 other Jamaat-e-Islami held a two-day orientation workshop for its 68 newly elected MPs covering parliamentary procedures, bills, budgets, and standing committee roles; Shajahan Chowdhury, as one of the party's few experienced MPs, would have been present. ↗
- 2025-11-22 controversy At a Jamaat conference at GEC Convention Hall in Chittagong, Shajahan Chowdhury declared that the administration in every electoral area must rise, sit, make arrests, and file cases at Jamaat's command; the remarks triggered national outcry, Bangladesh Administrative Service Association protest, and a formal show-cause notice from Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar. ↗↗↗↗↗
Provenance & notes
Constituency 292 covers all of Lohagara Upazila and the portion of Satkania Upazila excluding six union parishads (Bazlia, Dharmapur, Kalais, Keochia, Khagaria, Puranagar), which are part of Chittagong-14. Vote counts and shares confirmed independently across Wikipedia, TBS News, BSS, and Daily Star: 181,238 / 314,808 = 57.57%; 130,661 / 314,808 = 41.50%; 2,909 / 314,808 = 0.92%; sum = 314,808 exactly. Margin = 57.57 - 41.50 = 16.07 pp; raw margin = 50,577 votes. Third-party IAB candidate Shariful Alam Chowdhury received 2,909 votes (not included as runner-up per schema). Shajahan Chowdhury's two prior terms were from Chittagong-14 (the constituency was renumbered/rebounded post-2014 delimitation; he now represents what was effectively his home base redrawn as Chittagong-15). EC affidavit PDF not publicly accessible at time of verification; wealth_disclosed_bdt and income_annual_disclosed_bdt are null. Criminal case note reflects 2021 arrest over Hefazat violence; current legal status (dismissed or pending) not confirmed from primary source as of 2026-05-17. The Nov 22 2025 controversy occurred pre-election; Jamaat's show-cause notice was issued but no disciplinary outcome (expulsion or suspension) was reported before the February election. Boundary redrawn field is false: the 2014 redistricting predates the 2024 EC delimitation cycle referenced in the schema.
