Provenance & notes
Winner vote count (109,388) and runner-up count (53,807) confirmed by BSS (state news agency) and cross-checked against Wikipedia (English). A secondary aggregator (search snippet) erroneously reported 101,388 for Abu Sufian; BSS is the primary source and is used here. Vote shares (66.37%/32.64%) and margin (33.73 pp) are from Wikipedia's Chittagong-9 article; they are computed against total valid votes (~164,815 implied), which is lower than the 174,944 total votes cast figure (the latter includes invalid ballots and votes for the other 8 candidates who contested). Voter turnout of 42.02% per Wikipedia against 413,363 registered voters. Constituency covers city corporation wards 15-23 and 31-35, encompassing Kotwali thana core (Khatunganj market, Chittagong Medical College Hospital, Chittagong College, Haji Muhammad Mohsin College). Boundaries last redrawn 2013-14 when Sandwip Upazila was renumbered, shifting what was Chittagong-8 area into the current Chittagong-9 boundary. No EC boundary change in 2024. Runner-up AKM Fazlul Haque (Prof. Dr., Jamaat city organisational secretary) had his EC nomination cancelled in January 2026 over dual-citizenship documentation; BSS and Wikipedia both record him receiving 53,807 votes, confirming his candidacy was ultimately reinstated (likely via High Court). Abu Sufian (born 1 October 1964, age 61) is a first-term MP with no prior Jatiya Sangsad service; he contested Chittagong-8 by-polls in 2019 under BNP boycott conditions and did not win. Immovable assets declared as Tk 72,97,000 per Prothom Alo EC affidavit report. Education and income not retrievable from available public sources; criminal_cases empty based on absence of any reported case across all sources checked. Committee memberships not yet announced in public record as of 2026-05-17.
