Winner ATM Azharul Islam born 28 Feb 1952 in Lohanipara village, Badarganj; age 73 on election day (birthday not yet reached). Previously contested Rangpur-2 in 1996 (8,273 votes, 3rd), 2001 (17,788 votes, 3rd), 2008 (36,586 votes, 2nd). Former Secretary-General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (2008-2011); currently Nayeb-e-Ameer. Was convicted of war crimes (death sentence, Dec 2014; upheld 2019) by the ICT; fully acquitted by Supreme Court Appellate Division on 27 May 2025 and released 28 May 2025.
