BGCB is one of three banks licensed by Bangladesh Bank in February 2020 (the others are Citizens Bank and Community Bank Bangladesh). It is the only one among the 2020 cohort sponsored by a private industrial conglomerate (Bengal Group of Industries). The bank operates 4 Islamic banking windows among its 34 branches but is classified as conventional (not fully Sharia-compliant). Chairman Jashim Uddin is the younger brother of Bengal Group chairman Morshed Alam, who was arrested April 8, 2025 on charges related to the July 2024 anti-discrimination student movement killings and an ACC embezzlement case; his son Saiful Alam and brother Jashim Uddin were named in the ACC matter. Jashim Uddin has continued as bank chairman as of May 2026. Paid-up capital and authorized capital figures could not be confirmed from a public primary source (the 2024 annual report PDF was inaccessible for extraction); the BB minimum requirement as of 2023 was Tk 500 crore; exact paid-up capital left null. Total deposits Tk 2,098.34 crore and loans Tk 1,619.53 crore are from FY2024 annual report data cited in press (TBS News); converted to BDT at 1 crore = 10,000,000. Employee count 425 from the 2024 annual report at-a-glance section. ATM count 2 per banksbd.org (both in Dhaka). Sub-branch count 10 per official branch page. Rating: CRISL A / ST-2 per BB ECAI list 2025-26, validity December 28, 2026; an AA- figure cited by tob.news (March 2026 anniversary piece) is unverified and contradicts the BB official list, so A is used. Operating profit Tk 75.59 crore for FY2024; net profit figure not separately confirmed. verification_status=partial due to: paid-up capital unconfirmed, total assets unconfirmed, CAR unconfirmed, NPL in BDT not stated, and Morshed Alam / Jashim Uddin governance risk requiring ongoing monitoring.
