PM Sheikh Hasina had given initial approval on 7 March 2021 following advocacy by local civic groups. No campus land has been acquired; a seminar held on 14 October 2023 by the Satkhira University Implementation Committee called for land acquisition along the Satkhira-Khulna highway and proposed beginning instruction in rented facilities in 2024 -- this has not been confirmed to have occurred. No vice-chancellor has been appointed; the university was absent from both the March 16, 2026 batch (7 universities, including DU, RU, CU, JnU, BOU, KUET, Dhaka Central) and the May 14, 2026 batch (11 universities, including BUET, Comilla, Islamic, Barishal, Noakhali S&T, Pabna S&T, Rangamati S&T, MBSTU, Jamalpur S&T, DUET, JKKNIU). The university is listed as UGC-affiliated on Wikipedia; no independent confirmation from UGC's own site was retrievable due to SSL errors. No official website exists. Student, faculty, and budget figures are all null as the institution has not commenced operations.
