Pirojpur Science and Technology University

Original name was Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Pirojpur (BSMRSTU). Renamed to Pirojpur Science and Technology University by interim government ordinance; decision announced January 16, 2025 and gazette issued February 13, 2025, as part of the nationwide removal of Sheikh family nomenclature from 13 public universities. The founding act (No. 02 of 2022) was correspondingly amended. First VC was Prof. Dr. Kazi Saifuddin (JnU Philosophy; appointed September 18, 2022, joined September 20, 2022). Current VC Prof. Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam (former Chairman, Mathematics, University of Dhaka; PhD University of Gottingen, 2002) was appointed by presidential approval October 27, 2024, joined October 29, 2024; he is the second VC. The university commenced instruction in the 2023-24 academic year with 40 seats per department across four programmes (Mathematics, Psychology, Statistics, Computer Science and Engineering), giving a first-cohort intake of approximately 160 students; no authoritative aggregate enrolment figure confirmed from primary sources, so student_count is null. No pro-VC, treasurer, or registrar name was identifiable from any primary-accessible source; the January 2026 job circular for Director (Finance) suggests senior administrative posts are still being filled. PrSTU was not included in the March 16, 2026 VC reshuffle batch (7 universities including DU, RU, CU) or the May 14, 2026 batch (11 universities including BUET, Barishal University, Comilla University). UGC listing ID 225. campus is proposed at 75 acres in Pirojpur district; university is operational but still in early build-out phase.
