Original name was Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University (NOT Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman -- Bangamata refers to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa, wife of Bangabandhu, not Bangabandhu himself). Renamed to Jamalpur Science and Technology University on 16 January 2025 by ordinance of the Yunus-led interim government, part of a nationwide removal of Awami League-associated nomenclature from public institutions following the political transition of 2024. The renaming amended the founding Act (No. 24 of 2017).
