This figure represents an increase of 5.45 billion US dollars, or 24.7 percent, over the 22.07 billion received in 2023. A decade earlier, in 2014, the comparable inflow stood at 14.99 billion, meaning receipts have grown by 12.54 billion, or 83.6 percent, over the past ten years. The 2024 level marks a sharp rebound from the relatively modest growth observed in recent years and reconfirms the upward trajectory that has characterized the series over the long run.

For Bangladeshi policymakers, the 2024 outcome carries significance on several fronts. Remittance inflows of this magnitude directly support household consumption and poverty reduction, particularly in districts with high overseas employment. At the macroeconomic level, receipts of 27.52 billion US dollars provide critical foreign exchange support to the current account and strengthen reserve adequacy at a time of external pressure. The scale of these inflows also underscores the structural importance of labour migration to the economy, reinforcing the case for robust consular services, skills development, and banking-channel facilitation. Sustaining or growing receipts toward and beyond the current level should remain a central pillar of external-sector management and inclusive growth strategy.
