Problems and issues

  1. climate disaster A Bay-facing island-and-char upazila in the highest-rainfall part of the district, Rangabali is acutely exposed to cyclones, storm surge and flooding with limited evacuation routes. So what: Surge can isolate and inundate char communities with little warning. Source: Department of Disaster Management
  2. environment A thinned coastal mangrove and green-belt fringe offers little natural surge protection for its Bay-facing chars. So what: Loss of the green belt leaves communities directly exposed to storms. Source: Bangladesh Forest Department
  3. water Dry-season salinity intrusion into channels and groundwater threatens drinking water and irrigation on the chars. So what: Safe freshwater is chronically hard to secure. Source: Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE)
